About the authors
Louisa Cornell read her first historical romance novel, Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, at the age of nine. This inspired her to spend the next three years of her young life writing the most horrible historical romance novel ever written. Fortunately it has yet to see the light of day. As Louisa spent those three years living in a little English village in Suffolk (Thanks to her father's Air Force career.) it is no surprise she developed a lifelong love of all things British, especially British history and Regency-set romance novels. (And Earl Grey tea!)
During those same three years, Louisa's vocal talent was discovered. Her study of music began at the London College of Music and continued once she returned to the States. After four music degrees and a year of study at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, Louisa was fortunate enough to embark on a singing career in opera houses in Germany, Austria, and most of Eastern Europe.
Now retired from an active career in opera, Louisa has returned to her first love – writing Regency-set historical romance. She has completed four books to date and A PERFECTLY DREADFUL CHRISTMAS is her publication debut.
Two time Golden Heart finalist, three time Daphne du Maurier winner, and three time Royal Ascot winner, Louisa is a member of RWA, SMRWA and the Beau Monde Chapter of RWA. She lives in LA (Lower Alabama) with a Chihuahua so grouchy he has been banned from six veterinary clinics, several perfectly amiable small dogs, and a cat who terminates vermin with extreme prejudice.
Andrea K. Stein, the daughter of a trucker and an artist, never knew it would take the hard-work ethic of her father to achieve the light-filled magic of her mother’s art. She grew up a scribbler. The stories just spilled out. A newspaper and publishing professional for thirty years, she ran away to sea for three years, delivering yachts to the Caribbean, earning a USCG offshore captain’s license. Now, she writes about love and adventure on the high seas from her writing room in Colorado.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2024The second book in the "5 Pearls for the Earl" series is even better than the first. Derek, Earl of Framlingwood, has five mistresses—his pearls—each set up in neighboring townhouses. He believes they are unaware of each other, but in reality, they are all friends.
This story centers on Mrs. Sophia Hawksworth, a beautiful and talented harpist who learns music by ear since she cannot read or write. Sophia’s mistrust of men stems from her traumatic past: a drunken, abusive father who sold her into marriage to a cruel vicar at seventeen.
Escaping this abusive marriage, she becomes the Earl’s latest mistress. Amidst this, Derek faces blackmail, with threats that one of his mistresses is a murderer. To protect Sophia, he hires Joshua Norcross to be her protector and music teacher, and to determine is she is the alleged murderer. Sophia needs to learn to read and write to create her own music, and the Earl promises Joshua a substantial fee that will allow him to open his own opera house.
There is an immediate attraction between Sophia and Joshua, and their shared love of music quickly draws them together both physically and emotionally. Despite trying to resist their feelings, their passion overcomes them, and they become lovers.
Danger lurks in the shadows. Can Joshua keep Sophia safe? Will she forgive him when she discovers his initial motivations for becoming her music teacher? Or will she feel betrayed once again by another man in her life?
In the first book, I was perplexed by the Earl having five mistresses and didn’t respect him for it. It seemed excessive for any man to need five mistresses. However, the series reveals deeper reasons behind his decision. The Earl is an honorable man seeking to help these women after failing to protect the woman he loved, who was killed. This understanding of his character is a testament to the author’s wonderful writing skills!
This action-packed story features someone targeting Sophia for unknown reasons. The book skillfully weaves multiple plots, delivering a sometimes dicey but always exciting ride to a satisfying HEA. I couldn’t predict the villain or the motives, and the outcome was both unexpected and wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and eagerly anticipate the next installment.
I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily providing my honest review.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024This book was so good.
Sophia has extreme trust issues with men because her father abused her then sold her to a man who married her and was abusive to her, she ran and became a mistress to an Earl who has 5 other mistresses but even though she's safe with him, he still is someone she doesn't fully trust because she is his mistress. Her only solace in the world is her harp and music. But then her world is turned upside down when a music teacher moves into her home to help her with her music and she soon discovers that her solace is with the music teacher.
Joshua has issues with trust because of the way his father abused him and his brother disowned him but he doesn't need them when he can get make his way by teaching music to upper ton and being a fighter. But when he is given the opportunity of a lifetime to help keep a woman safe and help teach her music, he finds music isn't the most important thing in life.
This story has an amazing chemical of chemistry between the characters, the magic of music to bring the characters to gather, the suspense in this story is incredible, and seeing how much the side characters are willing to make these two happy is a bonus.
This story was so good and I can't wait to see what's next in this series.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 10, 2024Derek, Earl of Framlingwood, who apparently has more money than good sense, has set up his five mistresses in five adjoining townhouses. He has established a schedule of visiting each of them, and truly believes they know nothing about each other. The Earl is being blackmailed, told one of his mistresses is a murder. Can it be true? There are two questions to be answered. Who is the blackmailer, and why is this person doing this? This story is about Sophia and Joshua. They are brought together when the Earl hires Joshua to be Sophia’s music master, and protector. They have much in common, a love for music and a painful past. The attraction is here, but so are problems and danger. The story holds your attention and is filled with drama, danger, understanding, beautiful music, and steamy romance. There are some twists and surprises. The ending is perfect!
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 3, 2024The second book in the series. The premise of the series is about the 5 . mistress' the Earl maintains. So this is Sophia's story. She has been abused all her life until the Earl takes her in as a mistress. She loves music so the Earl hires Joshua to teach her music. What follows is a fast paced story with great chemistry, drama, a bit of mystery and more. Beautifully developed with depth and creativity. I would seriously recommend reading these in order because they bring in others from the prior book and it will make it so much more interesting. That said, it can be read alone if that's your choice.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2024The second book in the '5 Pearls for the Earl' series is a total page-turner! Louisa Cornell and Andrea K. Stein have outdone themselves with a story that's as melodious as a symphony and as spicy as a hot chili pepper. We've got Sophia Hawksworth, who can pluck the harp strings as deftly as she navigates drama, and Joshua Norcross, whose compositions are as complex as his love life. Their romance is hotter than a summer in Sevilla and more tangled than a pair of earbuds in your pocket. For anyone who loves a good corset-ripper with a side of Beethoven, this book is for you. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025Other reviewers have given great summaries of this book. All I need to say is that it was a fantastic book and I highly recommend it!!! I will definitely be reading more of this series, thank you, Ms. Cornell and Ms. Stein!!!
